WINE GUY’S PICKS

What To Drink When You’re Gobbling the Gobbler

turkey1The fact of the matter is that, when it comes to Thanksgiving, there are so many choices that will work that it’s impossible to narrow them down. It’s not just the turkey, but it’s all the stuff that surrounds the bird that makes just about any wine taste good with the dinner. Having said that, I am a strong believer in the lighter the better, and that means wines that are light in body and, most importantly, light in alcohol. So I stay way from the Zinfandels and Barossa Shiraz’ of the world.  I know, I know. Zinfandel is America’s wine, but I think it’s best sipped at a barbecue.

.Here are my picks. You can enjoy any one of them and still stay awake for the remainder of the evening.

OTHER GREAT CHOICES

Rosés are wonderful all year round, and the more robust the better for Thanksgiving. So consider Tavel, Gigondas, and Bandol rosés as superb partners. And there’s always ciderWhether from Normandy or the Berkshires (our wonderful choice), cider is perfect for a heavy meal. 5% alcohol, anyone?

Have a very happy, epicurally (?) satisfying Thanksgiving.
